Why do Firefighters climb?
Each year firefighters from across the country
join their Chicago-area brethren at the "Hustle Up the
Hancock" to honor the 343 fallen firefighters who gave their
lives in the 9/11 World Trade Center Disaster. This year's
climb is on February 28, 2010, and we have held spots once again
this year for
firefighters.
What does the money raised help fund?
Funds raised from the climb supports lung disease
education, advocacy and research programs. Since firefighters
are disproportionately affected by all types of lung disease; we
hope that you will challenge yourself not only physically, but
also challenge yourself by raising funds for Hustle and this important
cause.
Can my firehouse have a separate team?
Individual firehouses can form their own team.
For example, Naperville Firefighters can form a "Naperville
Firefighters Team." Individual teams receive benefits including
a team packet mailing and a team photo. If a firefighter would
like to climb, but his/her firehouse is not forming a team, then
he/she can join the "Firefighters for New York" team. All
firefighters will climb together at a time to be determined. (All teams,
including firehouse teams, participating in Hustle Up the
Hancock pay a $125 team fee.)
Can my friends & family members climb with
me?
Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to
participate in the event and can join a firefighter team during
the General Registration Process. General Registration opens on
Monday, November 2nd at 8:00 a.m. Once General Registration closes to
the general public, only firefighters can join firefighter
teams. Be sure family and friends register early on Monday, November
2nd,
2009. The event sells out quickly.
Please note
that these held climbing spaces are for firefighters only, so be
courteous of your fellow firefighters by ensuring the spaces are
used only by firefighters.
